    January 20, 2026 on Mirmire (2026)

Released on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti, Mirmire is a deeply touching and "earthy" family drama that captures the raw emotional bond between a single father and his young daughter. The story centers on Sonam (Dayahang Rai) and his daughter Nima (Saisha Gauchan), living a simple village life while dealing with the absence of a mother figure. The plot thickens when a school teacher enters their lives, acting as a bridge but also creating new emotional conflicts. Unlike many commercial films, Mirmire avoids forced action or loud comedy, focusing instead on a serious and heart-touching narrative about the sacrifices of those left behind by family members working abroad.

The performances are the true strength of this film. Dayahang Rai proves once again why he is a master of his craft; his performance is subtle yet powerful, conveying immense pain through his silence and facial expressions rather than just dialogues. However, the real surprise is young Saisha Gauchan, who delivers an incredibly natural and sweet performance that will surely win the hearts of the audience. While Srijana Ninglegu and Prakash Saput provide solid support, the emotional weight is carried almost entirely by the father-daughter duo.

Technically, the film is well-crafted with a soulful background score and meaningful songs that hit the right emotional notes. While the pacing is a bit slow and some background sound effects felt slightly loud or mismatched, the direction by Yam Sherpa remains honest to the local setting. The climax is decent, though I felt a bit more screen time for the mother’s character could have made the ending even more impactful. Overall, Mirmire is a beautiful representation of Nepali culture and family values. It is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates realistic, emotional storytelling.

    November 3, 2025 on Barista Balaram (2025)

If you’re in the mood for a Nepali film that tackles real issues through a central character’s journey (and you don’t mind some familiar beats), then Barista Balaram is a good choice. It brings heart, purpose, and solid acting. Just don’t go in expecting genre-breakthrough or fast-paced excitement.
