Harischandra was the first Nepali Language Movie released on September 14, 1951 in Kolkota India in tha banner of Bihar National Movietone. It was produced by Thakur Prasad, P.K Vanerji, D.B. Pariyar, and Hari Prasad Mukharjee and directed by Sangh Rathi. The movie was based on the story of Raja Satya Harischandra and was inspired from Hindi movie Harischandra. 

The main cast in the movie were Prem Najir, Chandrakanta, Rosy Mary, Shiladevi, Julee, Nandalal, Bal Bahadur Syando, Peter Rai, Sagar Dutta Koirala, Dornath Sharma, B.B. Pariyar, Dilu Singh Kshetri, Ranu Devi, Manu Devi, Harka Bahadur, and Dambar Singh Tamang.

Aama was the first film produced in Nepal and was released on October 7, 1964. It was produced by the Information Department of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal (now Government of Nepal), directed by Hira Singh Khatri with Shiva Shankar Manandhar and Bhuwan Chand as the lead actors, who are regarded as the first actors in the history of the Nepali film industry.
