Koshi Hospital was established at Rangeli of Morang in 1947 BS and shifted to Biratnagar in 1971 BS. The 50-bed hospital has now been expanded to 350 beds.

Koshi Hospital was established in 1947 BS (1890AD) by the Rana Prime Minister Bir Samsher. It was then named as P.Bir 1 Lumber (पी. वीर १ लम्बर) and was established in Rangeli.
Koshi Hospital then called P.Bir 1 Lumber (पी. वीर १ लम्बर) is the first hospital of Nepal. Although Bir Hospital was also established in the same year but Bir Samsher initiated the establishment of hospital from the eastern Nepal on numbering basis so Koshi Hospital was established first.
Book Published by Bir Hospital on the occasion of its 100th year also stated that Koshi Hospital is the oldest hospital of Nepal

I was there to see ophthalmologist he was agressive and made me feel so embarrassed that I regret seeking his service.

4 months agoKoshi Hospital in Biratnagar is a well-known government hospital that serves a large number of patients every day. The doctors are experienced and professional, and they try their best to treat patients properly. The medical team is also helpful and polite, which gives confidence to those who visit. However, one of the biggest issues is the slow service. The hospital is always crowded, and patients often have to wait for hours before getting checked or treated. This slow process can be very tiring, especially for the elderly, children, or patients who come from far away. It would be much better if the management improved the system to handle the flow of people more efficiently. The environment is clean for a government hospital, and most basic medical services are available. Emergency services are active, and the pharmacy inside is helpful. But the crowd and the delay in service make the overall experience a bit frustrating at times. Despite the slow service, I would still say it’s a good hospital because the doctors are skilled and the treatment is affordable. With some improvements in timing and management, it can become one of the best hospitals in the region.
