Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) started to provide institutional-based blood transfusion service through the Department of Pathology at Bir Hospital and established the first blood bank of Nepal, namely “Laxmi Blood Bank” in 1966 A.D. i.e., 3 years after the inception of the Society itself. Later, the service was provided by NRCS Central Blood Transfusion Service Center after its establishment in 1982 A.D.
