Buddhashanti Gauda is a scenic and historical place in Buddhasahanti Rural Municipality 6 also known as Jorsaghu. It is situated on the border of Buddhasahanti and Rong Rural Municipality of Illam.
The name “Gauda” comes from its historical significance as the entry point to the Jhapa district, which was a walking route for the people of Illam to enter the district.
One of the main attractions of Buddhasahanti Gauda is Jorsaghu, a suspension bridge located in Temai and Thotne rivers, which flows through the area and takes the shape of saghu (a traditional Nepali musical instrument), giving the place its unique name.
The confluence of Temai and Thotne rivers provides a natural and relaxed environment, which attracts people from nearby towns such as Birtamod, Budhabare, Dhulabari, Kakarvitta, and Bhadrapur, who come here to beat the heat during summer and enjoy swimming.
In addition to its natural beauty, Buddhasahanti Gauda is also known for its historical houses constructed during the Rana Regime. The area is abundant in greenery, and visitors can enjoy the local culture and ethnic traditions of the people.
Buddhasahanti Gauda is an excellent destination for those who want to immerse themselves in Nepali history, culture, and nature.
Travel 11 km north on Mechi Highway from Charali Chowk and then travel 2 km east to reach Temai River then travel 9 km north to reach Buddhashanti Gauda or Jorsaghu.
It is just 28 km from Birtamod, the major city of Jhapa District, 32.8 km from Kakarvitta Border, and 39 km from Chandragadi Airport.
The best time to visit Buddhashati Gauda is from the second week of June to October (Ashar to Kartik).
There are only a few hotels available. So it is better to carry the necessary food items. There is only one homestay available Ghatte Homestay for nightstay. So it is better to book a room in advance. For booking you can call Bimal Dahal at +977-9863181368.
