Google Point (गुगल पोइन्ट) also known as Google Hill in Rong Rural Municipality-3 of Ilam has become a popular tourist destination. Known for being a reference point for Nepal’s land survey, Google Point now attracts tourists from Nepal and India.
Located at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level, this point is part of the Karshong trekking route that begins from Rong Rural Municipality-3. Even during the monsoon season, tourists from neighboring India and Bhutan come to Google Point, seeking to escape the heat of the plains.
The hill, which serves as a geodetic reference point for the Survey Department of the Government of Nepal, was named Google Point (गुगल पोइन्ट) to promote it as a tourist attraction within the Sunakhari Community Forest area of Rong Rural Municipality-3.
Tourists from Kolkata, Darjeeling, and Sikkim in India, visiting Nepal, have started to explore Google Point. Many visitors, particularly those with a deep faith in Buddhism, come to perform land worship rituals due to its geodetic significance.
From Google Point, one can enjoy spectacular views of the sunrise, the Kanchenjunga mountain range, Antu Danda, Jhandi Danda, vast areas of India, the plains of the Terai region, and the Mechi River. Tourists visiting Kanyam and Pathibhara can also visit Google Point with minimal additional expense.
